Spurs had put a price tag of £3 million on Scotland striker Gordon Durie, who had been left out for the second successive time for their clash against Nottingham Forest. Dueir had never hidden his desire to play for Rangers. He had been linked with the Scottish side all season although no bid had been reported from Ibrox club. Rangers had been without an experienced back up striker since they sold Paul Rideout to Everton for £500000.
