Proposals to form a premier league second division were thrown out as England’s top clubs achieved a rare showing of unity at a London meeting yesterday. The premier league clubs were so unanimous in their view against a second division that chief executive Rick Parry did not even call for a vote on the issue. Two proposals were passed in the meeting where a review of the premier league stadiums and a creation of under 21 leagues was to come into place.
