Roberto De Zerbi
Tottenham Hotspur’s new head coach, Roberto De Zerbi, is working to steer the club away from relegation in the Premier League. After a draw against Brighton and a crucial 1-0 win over Wolves, De Zerbi is focused on implementing his high-energy style of play, reminiscent of his tenure at Brighton. However, injuries and the need for stability have delayed the full realization of his tactical vision.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “Of course. But I think they are smart and they can understand quickly and they need instructions, they need a fixed plan, a clear plan. In the first-half at Wolves, I think we played well. Not shooting too many times, not creating too many chances to score, not with the right speed, but in terms of order, occupation of the spaces, the line pass … maybe some mistakes in the decisions because too many times we went outside and we have to change the habits – sometimes we go outside, sometimes we keep the ball inside. Because keeping the ball inside, we can attack in the right side, in the left side, straight, and if we go outside you have just two parts – the right side and the centre, it’s difficult to go on the other side.”
Roberto De Zerbi added: “Today was the first day with the group but he worked very well. He’s available, yes. I have not decided yet the starting XI.”
Roberto De Zerbi also stated: “We think about Villa and then we go to speak about the other three games. I don’t know, if we win, yes, not now, we can’t think if we play before or after. It can be negative or it can be positive to give some more energy.”
Roberto De Zerbi expressed: “With my eyes I can reach the head of the players. Nothing different. I can’t change my face or myself depending on who is in front of me. Clear, honest and what I feel I say.”
When asked about winning five matches in a row, Roberto De Zerbi responded: “Yes, it’s possible because we have good players. You are not convinced?”
Despite the challenges, De Zerbi remains optimistic about the team’s capabilities, emphasizing the importance of a clear strategy and adaptability. The team faces a significant test against Aston Villa, with several key players unavailable due to injuries. However, the return of Destiny Udogie and the potential inclusion of Pape Matar Sarr provide a boost. Tottenham’s upcoming fixtures will be crucial, especially as they trail West Ham in the relegation battle. De Zerbi’s focus is on maintaining morale and clarity within the squad, aiming to leverage their strengths to secure vital points in the coming matches.
