Pep Guardiola
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has addressed the recent departure of Enzo Maresca from Chelsea and his own future at the club. Maresca, who previously served as an assistant and academy coach at City, will not be present in the away dugout at the Etihad this weekend following an abrupt exit from Stamford Bridge. Guardiola, known for his reluctance to comment on managerial changes, took the opportunity to praise Maresca’s qualities. Despite the upheaval at Chelsea potentially complicating preparations for the upcoming match, Guardiola emphasized his focus on Manchester City’s ambitions in both the Premier League and Champions League.
Pep Guardiola said: “We won’t talk much if we don’t know which manager will be there and I don’t know what’s going to happen, concern is thinking about yourself and our people are going to help us with two tough games against Chelsea and Brighton. Chelsea have always been dangerous and the Premier League is dangerous every game. All I can say is that from my point of view Chelsea have lost an incredible manager and an incredible person. It’s a decision from the Chelsea hierarchy so I’ve nothing to say. How lucky I am in the club where I am. My club is extraordinary. I have a contract. I say a thousand million times, I know you’re bored of me, I’ve been here for ten years and I promise you I will leave one day but I have a contract, I’m happy, I want to fight with my team, the hierarchy respect me – they proved last season when we didn’t win one game in three months and they supported me.”
Guardiola’s comments highlight his satisfaction with the support he receives from Manchester City’s hierarchy, especially during challenging periods. Last season, the club endured a difficult stretch without a victory for three months, yet the management stood by him. This backing has reinforced Guardiola’s commitment to the club, as he continues to focus on achieving success with his team.
The departure of Maresca from Chelsea adds an element of unpredictability to the upcoming fixture. Known for orchestrating victories against top clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, and Liverpool, Maresca’s absence could impact Chelsea’s tactical approach. Meanwhile, Manchester City aims to extend their lead over fifth-placed Chelsea by 13 points with a win on Sunday, further solidifying their position in the league.
As speculation about Guardiola’s future persists, the manager remains steadfast in his dedication to Manchester City. Despite rumors of discussions with Maresca prior to his Chelsea exit, Guardiola expressed gratitude for the unwavering support he receives from the club’s leadership. His focus remains on guiding City to domestic and European glory, with the squad undergoing significant rebuilding to strengthen their campaign.
