Pep Guardiola
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is carefully assessing the fitness of key players Rodri and Jeremy Doku as the team prepares for their upcoming Premier League match against Chelsea. Both players made their return from injury during the second half of City’s recent draw with Sunderland, stepping in for Nico Gonzalez and Savinho, who were unable to continue in the match.
Pep Guardiola said: “It’s always what I’m looking for but we have to wait a little bit because he came from one year and a half, he came back and you have to be careful. The schedule is the schedule but always with Rodri on the pitch we are better. Without Nico it would not have been possible because Kovacic is not there anymore and Nico has been outstanding but Rodri is Rodri. Everybody knows it. We are better and people feel better, but we have to be careful. We will see how people recover. In this period to have two games away is so demanding and at Christmas time it always happens. Two tough games at Nottingham Forest and here. We have to see – not much time. We will talk with the doctors and physios. We will miss Savinho but the more difficulties, the stronger we will be.”
Guardiola’s comments highlight the importance of Rodri to the team’s dynamics, especially after his long absence due to injury. The manager’s cautious approach underscores the challenges of navigating a congested fixture schedule, particularly during the demanding Christmas period. Rodri’s return is seen as a significant boost, given his ability to control the game and enhance the team’s overall performance. However, Guardiola is mindful of the player’s need for careful management to avoid further setbacks.
The absence of Nico Gonzalez and the potential unavailability of Savinho add to the challenges facing Manchester City. Guardiola’s strategy will likely involve close collaboration with the club’s medical staff to ensure players’ fitness and readiness for the upcoming fixtures. The manager remains optimistic, suggesting that overcoming these challenges will ultimately strengthen the team.
As City prepares for their next match against Chelsea, the focus will be on player recovery and tactical adjustments to maintain their competitive edge in the Premier League.
