Enzo Le Fée
Enzo Le Fée has described Sunderland’s recent Wear-Tyne derby win over Newcastle United as an “unbelievable” experience, emphasizing the significance of the victory for both the club and the city. The midfielder expressed his deepening connection with Sunderland since his arrival, highlighting the club’s importance to him and the community.
Enzo Le Fée said: “Tired, but unbelievable. We knew already it was an important game, not just for us, but for the city, for the story of this city. Our target was to win this game in front of our fans, to give this present before Christmas. Just unbelievable.”
Enzo Le Fée continued: “A lot,” he said when asked what Sunderland now means to him. “I was in a bad situation in Rome, and when I came, honestly, I still knew everything about this club. After one week, I felt at home, and to play this big game was the case last year, when we played the play-off. Even early in the season, when we played against Middlesbrough, it was crazy. For our fans to give this three points and this win, we are really happy.”
Le Fée’s journey to Sunderland has been marked by significant moments, including his professional debut in Ligue 2 in 2019 after progressing through Lorient’s academy. His rapid integration into the Sunderland squad has been notable, with the player acknowledging the club’s unique atmosphere and the fervent support of its fans.
Enzo Le Fée said: “Yeah, like you say, but for me it’s not a club, it’s a city. We can feel everyone is crazy to see us. I think everyone waits for the weekend to see us play, and when we play at home, we feel something different. We are stronger, we feel nothing can happen for us, and it was the case today.”
Reflecting on the broader context of his career, Le Fée admitted that his move to Sunderland was initially questioned by some, but he has found the experience to be overwhelmingly positive. He emphasized the importance of the club’s backing, particularly from owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, in making his transition smooth and fulfilling.
Enzo Le Fée said: “Because I think when I was in Rome, some people can say, ‘Oh, you’re going to be in the Championship because you go for Sunderland.’ What I’m living here is just crazy, and I think I can’t find a club like this. I’m just happy to help this team, to enjoy with the fans.”
Le Fée’s sentiments reflect a player who has embraced the culture and passion of Sunderland, both on and off the pitch. His remarks about feeling at home underscore a successful adaptation to his new environment, suggesting that his journey with the club is only just beginning.
