Tottenham Hotspur’s managerial changes have been a focal point of discussion following the club’s 17th-place finish in the Premier League last season. Despite securing the Europa League title, the club decided to part ways with Ange Postecoglou, bringing in Thomas Frank from Brentford to rejuvenate the squad. The north London club currently sits 11th in the league standings, with six wins, four draws, and six losses.
Gary Neville said: “[Under Ange] We pressed forward for 90 minutes and of course, you ask a lot of your body playing every three days. When the results were getting down, Ange was really focused on his system and really believed in his system, and even until today I still believe in his system because we played some unbelievable football.”
Van de Ven said: “The new gaffer came in and has his new way of playing and thoughts about the game. Now, it’s a lot of walk-throughs and technical stuff. Before every game, we do some tactical work about the opponent- the meetings and everything is the same as it was under Ange in terms of scouting the opponent.”
Van de Ven continued: “It’s different of course, the way Ange thinks about football and how Frank thinks about football. The meetings are the same but it’s a lot of walk-throughs we do with Thomas Frank. You play so many games, so we just go out and walk through everything. It’s Italian-style.”
Van de Ven further explained: “Our aim for this season is to make sure that we’re playing Champions League football again. Top four or five is what we want. Every team in the Premier League is good. Every away game is tough, and even at home. If you’re feeling 90 per cent before a game, you’re likely to lose or drop points.”
The transition from Postecoglou to Frank has introduced a shift in tactical approach, with a focus on technical drills and strategic walkthroughs. This change aims to adapt to the rigorous demands of the Premier League, where every match presents a formidable challenge. The club’s ambition remains clear: a return to the Champions League. Van de Ven highlighted the competitive nature of the league, citing Aston Villa’s resurgence as an example of the unpredictable dynamics within the league.
Tottenham’s upcoming fixtures, including a crucial match against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on December 28, will be pivotal as they seek to climb the league table. With Sky broadcasting over 215 live Premier League games this season, fans will have ample opportunity to follow the team’s progress under Frank’s new leadership.
