James Justin Leicester City
Leeds United have successfully reached an agreement to sign defender James Justin from Leicester City. The deal involves an initial payment of £8 million, with an additional £2 million in potential add-ons. These add-ons are contingent on certain conditions, which are not guaranteed to be met. Although the exact terms of the deal remain undisclosed, it’s typical for such agreements to include clauses related to team performance, such as relegation or survival scenarios. Leeds manager Daniel Farke had been keen to bring in a back-up full-back as a late transfer window target, and Justin fits the bill. Despite concerns over a recent injury, talks with Justin continued, and the deal was finalized.
Daniel Farke said: “Yes, I think it’s fair to say that Arsenal deserved to win this game today. They were the better side. They deserved also to win this game with a good proper goal difference. I think you could feel this in the first 10 minutes, they were all over us, we were a bit nervous, but we survived this period without giving one chance away.”
Farke continued: “Then we got a foot into the game, got more and more confident, had good situations also for counter-attacks. After 35 minutes, we had probably the best chance in the game with Pascal Struijk’s header and the fantastic save of David Raya.”
“We accept that they were the better team today, they deserved to win this game, and for us it’s not a season-defining game. We are disappointed but we won’t over-analyse this game too much.”
James Justin had started the 2025/26 season with Leicester City and even captained the team during their Championship opener against Sheffield Wednesday. Despite missing Leicester’s Carabao Cup match against Huddersfield Town and their recent win at Charlton due to his injury, the issue is not considered serious. With Justin’s addition, Leeds United strengthens their defensive options, joining other recent signings such as Lukas Nmecha, Jaka Bijol, and Sebastiaan Bornauw.
Leeds’ recent match against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium ended in a heavy defeat, with the Gunners securing a commanding win. Despite the loss, Farke remained optimistic about his team’s overall performance, acknowledging Arsenal’s superiority but emphasizing that the match was not critical for the season’s outcome. Leeds United continues to build their squad as they aim for a competitive season in the Premier League.
