Chelsea’s former first-team goalkeeper Dave Beasant’s year had gone from bad to worse after his proposed loan move to Portsmouth had been blocked by the English league. Chelsea keeper had agreed to join the south coast club as cover for Alan Knight over the Christmas holiday period but the transfer fell through because Portsmouth already had two players on loan and that was the maximum number allowed at one time as per the league rules.
