Arsenal striker Ian Wright was charged for misconduct and violence in a match and faced a minimum of a three-match suspension. Wright had two weeks to appeal against the charges and he was likely to face a similar punishment as Dean Saunders did one year earlier. Some reports suggested that the punishment could be as harsh as a nine-match ban but his manager George Graham said: “Ian categorically stated that he did not punch the player.”
