Eddie Howe Bournemouth
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has reiterated his support for Alexander Isak, should the player wish to remain the club’s main striker. However, Howe has made it clear that Isak will not simply walk back into the team without undergoing a thorough fitness assessment. This comes as a bid exceeding £100 million from Liverpool was tabled for Isak, though Howe confirmed that no further offers have been received. As Isak prepares to return to Tyneside for pre-season training ahead of friendly matches against Espanyol and Atletico Madrid at St James’ Park, Howe outlined the expectations for the Swedish international.
Eddie Howe said: “No.”
Howe said: “Of course it is. But there is also another way to look at this. You have to earn the right to train with us. We’re Newcastle United. The player has a responsibility here to be part of a team and part of a squad – you have to act in the right way. So that is also at play here. We will make sure that any player does that to earn the right to train with the group. No player can expect to act poorly and train with the group as normal.”
Howe said: “Of course I’d like him to be, but whether he will I don’t know at this moment in time. We have been here with the time difference preparing training and for games. Other people have been dealing with that situation back at home.”
The situation surrounding Isak’s potential move to Liverpool has added an extra layer of complexity to Newcastle’s pre-season preparations. Howe’s comments highlight the club’s commitment to maintaining high standards and ensuring that all players meet the necessary fitness and behavioral expectations. The emphasis on earning the right to train with the team underscores the importance Newcastle places on team cohesion and discipline.
As the Magpies gear up for the 2025/26 Premier League season, the focus remains on building a competitive squad capable of achieving success in one of the world’s toughest leagues. With pre-season fixtures and training sessions on the horizon, Newcastle’s management is keen to ensure that all players, including Isak, are fully prepared to contribute to the team’s objectives.
