David Moyes
Everton manager David Moyes expressed a renewed sense of optimism regarding the club’s transfer activities as they prepare for their final Premier League Summer Series match against Manchester United at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Despite earlier frustrations over the lack of new signings, Moyes is hopeful of strengthening the squad before the transfer window closes.
David Moyes said: “There are loads we’re working on as we try to see where we’re going with some deals we’re trying to work through. I’m not going to shout out names because there are that many names being brought up at the moment, you wouldn’t know where to start. We’re trying to go about our business and improve the group of players we have. We will need to get a stronger squad, I’ve said it and there’s no doubt about it. But I’m confident we will do, I really am. I’m confident we will have quite a few new players in. The bedding in period that we alluded to last week is worrying me because time is shortening down, but I’m really positive that we’ll get quite a few new players in before the window shuts.”
Moyes has been vocal about the necessity for new recruits, emphasizing the need for “nine or 10” new players for the upcoming 2025/26 season. So far, Everton has added Charly Alcaraz, Thierno Barry, Mark Travers, and teenage Bayern Munich left-back Adam Aznou to their roster. Despite a recent 2-1 defeat to West Ham United, Moyes remains focused on the match against his former club, Manchester United, and the potential for further signings.
David Moyes said: “It’s been a priority (right wing) all summer. Probably of all the positions, having a right-sided player is what we wanted. I’d have liked that first through the door if that was possible, but we’ve tried to get a few and not quite got them over the line. I think the transfer windows for years have been quite difficult. We’re hoping for a reaction against Manchester United. We’re looking to play a bit better than we’ve done. We had a good couple of games against United last year and I certainly had one game against them which was a really good game. We played well and probably should have done it at the end.”
Everton’s chief executive, Angus Kinnear, has returned to the UK, with the club reportedly aiming to finalize at least one major deal soon. However, any move for Manchester City’s Jack Grealish will have to wait until other necessary business is completed. Moyes acknowledged the challenges of the transfer market but remains hopeful about securing a right-wing player, a priority for the club throughout the summer.
The match at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, known for its retractable roof and air conditioning, marks a return to a venue Moyes visited during the 2019 Super Bowl. The manager expressed excitement about the new stadium and the opportunities it presents for the club and its supporters.
