Oldham keeper Paul Gerrard had a nightmare afternoon as Spurs raced to their biggest win under Ossie Ardiles. England under 21 keepers handed Spurs three goals inside two and a half disastrous first-half minutes and Old Ham found themselves 3-0 down after Bizzare opening seven minutes.
The keeper fumbled a Sol Campbell shot before Steve Sedgley forced the ball over the line from point-blank range. A minute later, the youngster was horribly out of his area to Teddy Sheringham who put the ball into the net. And amazingly Gerrard did it again – slicing his kick straight to Sheringham, who this time ran forward and angled his shot home low for his eighth goal of the season.
In the 62nd minute, Spurs scored their fourth as Anderton linked with Sheringham. Four minutes from time, they grabbed their fifth via substitute Daren Caskey which gave the North London side a positive end to a week that had a lot of off the pitch turmoil at the club.
