In this blog series – “What Happened Today”, we are going to revive some of the moments from past which will revive moments of the golden history of the league.

Tuesday’s papers in the UK covered Liverpool’s central defender Steve Nicol’s reaction on Reds’ “Lucky” victory against Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United put up for sale, Graeme Souness bemoaned the lack of quality in the premier league and Liverpool vice-chairman apologized to former manager Dalglish over remarks made over his resignation.

Liverpool defender Steve Nicol described their victory against Sheffield Wednesday as a piece of luck and urged his teammates to show more passion & pride in the upcoming games to arrest the slump in form, which saw the reds only win three times since the start of that season. He said, “We had a bit of luck with us, and you need the results for the moral now. Now you have got to build on it.” Nicol was speaking ahead of Liverpool’s clash against third division Chesterfield in the league cup.

Sheffield United was put up for sale after the chairman Paul Woolhouse failed to meet a deadline to pay controlling shares valued at £3 million. Those shares were set to go back in the market, and the new owner would be determined in due course. Meanwhile, Derek Dooley was invited to be the interim chairman for the club.

Graeme Souness took a swipe at standards in the new Premier League. Liverpool’s under-pressure manager believed most clubs had packed their teams with ball-winners at the expense of entertainers. “The game is filled with athletes,” he said. “If you can run about, take a knock and give a knock, you can play in the Premier League. That is not what the game is all about. It’s about people who can move and dribble, pass, and generally entertain.”

Liverpool Football Club’s vice chairman Sidney Moss apologized to former manager Kenny Dalglish over remarks made about his departure; a formal statement was to be read out on Sky Sports later that day. On the same channel three weeks, earlier, Moss had said that there was no apparent reason for Dalglish to resign, the latest statement was set to confirm that the reasons for Dalglish’s resignation were informed and explained to the club in advance.
