Nottingham Forest chairman Fred Reacher warned the potential suitors of Roy Keane that the release clause in Roy Keane’s contract wasn’t going to come into effect till October of that year and insisted that he wanted Keane to stay at the club following the departure of Brian Clough.
There were reports that week that the Irishman had already set his mind up for a move to Old Trafford and had started looking for houses in Manchester. But that also gave rumours that Kenny Dalglish’s Blackburn Rovers may also be a potential destination. But Forest chairman thought otherwise.
Fred Reacher said “I’ve already had a number of Premier League chairman inquire about Keane but no decision has been made and I don’t want him to leave. No way. If he stayed and we got a flying start to the new season, Roy might carry on with us.”
