Marc Guehi says Crystal Palace can use their victory over Hartlepool United on Saturday as a springboard for their next two fixtures.
Marc Guehi said: “It’s always good to be back at home playing in front of the fans. It was good to get a win. Hopefully, this catapults us through the rest of the week. It was really tough, to be fair. Especially in the second half they really gave it a go. Their physicality and the way they played they really tried. They had their fans behind them so it was a tough game but the team did really well with a professional performance. We take [the cup] game by game, as it comes. We’re not too bothered about who we play, as long as we have the same mindset and professionalism we showed [against Hartlepool] I think we’ll be okay.”
Guehi put Palace on the way to victory on Saturday by opening the scoring inside four minutes, converting Michael Olise’s free-kick after finding himself in space in the box. It was the defender’s third goal of the season following successive goals in games against Burnley and Aston Villa back in November.
Marc Guehi added: “I’m really happy with that [scoring]. It’s always good to contribute. I thought the team really played well and I’m just happy to help in any way. [Scoring] is not a competition – if I can just help the team and contribute in any way, but I’m a defender first and managed to keep a clean sheet today which is good as well. Contributing with goals is always great.”
