Snubbed England striker Teddy Sheringham sent a clear signal to Graham Taylor that he was alive and well. The Spurs star showed his pedigree with a classic goal against the blades that began with Vinny Samways producing a defence-splitting pass. Sheffield equalized after the breakthrough a brilliant strike from Adrian Littlejohn.
Spurs regained the lead via Jason Dozzell just four minutes later but the blades fought back once again with Littlejohn putting them back on parity in the 64th minute. Sheffield United boss Dave Bassett was not happy for the second Spurs goal where his goalkeeper Alan Kelly was floored on the ground and needed four stitches afterwards.
Dave Bassett said “My players felt it was a free-kick to us. I am already in trouble with the FA, so I’ll be diplomatic and say I didn’t see the incident. I am not wholly disappointed by the result though, as we came back from behind twice and Spurs are quite dangerous.”
