Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has delivered his verdict on Anthony Martial after the former Arsenal target’s agent revealed he wants to leave Old Trafford in January. The question on Martial’s future was put to interim United boss Ralf Rangnick following their win against Norwich on Saturday, but the German remained unfazed by the reports.
Ralf Ragnick said: “I don’t communicate with agents via the media and press. The player hasn’t spoken with me or us about it. To be honest, what his agent says via the media is not of that much interest to me. If he really has the wish to go to another club it should be the player who informs either the board or myself. I have never spoken about a player via the media and via agents.”
Martial is a player Arsenal have frequently been linked with in the past, both before his arrival at Old Trafford and during his time there, and with Mikel Arteta’s striking options disappointing of late, the Gunners could be tempted to make a move. Given the 26-year-old’s past comments, it is a move that could be on the cards. Three years ago he talked highly of the influences of former Arsenal stars Thierry Henry and Nicolas Anelka.
Anthony Martial said: “I always followed English football. Manchester United because Patrice Evra was there and he comes from the same town as me. I followed Arsenal as Thierry Henry was there, also from Les Ulis. For my French heroes, I had Thierry Henry, of course, and then Zinedine Zidane, Zizou. They were the best. I admired strikers, No.10s. Another player who I really liked was Nicolas Anelka. He was a really great player, quick with loads of skill.”
