Norwich City 4 Leeds United 2 – Sutton Hat Trick Kept Norwich Alive in Title Hunt

A hat trick from 20-year-old Chris Sutton, his first in senior football, revived Norwich’s premier league title hopes. The East Anglian side scored their first win in three games and was just four points behind the leader’s Manchester United. Norwich manager Mike Walker decided to push Sutton, who had played in central defence for the previous 10 games, in attack instead of giving new signing Efan Ekoku his first start.

And Sutton responded by keeping alive Norwich’s faint championship hopes. Lee Chapman gave Leeds the lead when he drove home Jamie Forester’s cross in the third minute. Rod Wallace also scored a superb goal for Leeds two minutes into the second half. But Sutton’s three goals along with Dave Phillips’ goal gave the canaries a comfortable win in the end.
