Gabriel Jesus has revealed he apologised to Neymar for a yellow card challenge on his Brazil teammate. The Manchester City striker scored the winning goal in the Blues’ 2-1 win over Paris St Germain after going on as a sub. But as City defended their lead, he chopped down his close pal as Neymar tried to lead a counter-attack, and was booked for a cynical foul. The two men embraced at the end and Jesus had a few words with him, later revealing
Gabriel Jesus said: “I said to him sorry because we are brothers, but that’s football. I never go to injure anyone – I tried to stop the game because I know his quality. He can score any time. I stopped him, but after the game said sorry because I had to. He said he would do the same.”
Jesus got on the end of a lovely cushioned pass from Bernardo Silva to fire City ahead, and later paid tribute to the Portugal star.
Gabriel Jesus said: “Bernardo is one of the best players in the world right now. His quality as a football player is incredible but he has another thing – that he always works so hard. No matter if he is playing well or not, he is a player I love because he has that quality in transition, and he works and likes to have the ball. In my opinion he is a player who, if you like to watch football, you will enjoy, one of the best in the world. We are so happy because when you finish first in the group stage it’s always good. PSG are an amazing team with amazing players but we played so good tonight.”
