Former Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has sent a heartfelt message to Liverpool supporters after Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Brighton.

Adam Lallana said: “Outstanding collective effort. Would have been easy to go under after being two behind against a team that good, but we’re made of stronger stuff. Valuable, deserved point. Separately, huge appreciation to every single person inside Anfield for the welcome and reception today. Will always be a second home for me. I’ll never take it for granted. Thank you to a very special football club.”

Lallana is highly rated by manager Jurgen Klopp and he’s a player the Liverpool boss has described as ‘one of the best he’s ever worked with’.

Jurgen Klopp said: “I miss Adam [Lallana] still to be honest, I think we all agree, if Adam would have been a little bit less often injured, that could have been still on another level – and it was already great. So, one of the best players I ever worked with, an absolutely incredible person as well. I am really looking forward to seeing him again.”

The 33-year-old returned to Anfield for the first time in front of supporters following his departure in July last year. Liverpool were 2-0 up inside 30 minutes, but Graham Potters side fought their way back into the game and Lallana assisted their equaliser. Despite the result, he received an ovation from both Brighton and Liverpool supporters when he was substituted for Pascal Gross on 77 minutes. After six years at the club, Lallana never got the send off he deserved when he left for Brighton and at the final whistle, he stayed behind to applaud Liverpool fans as they cheered his name. He’s now taken to social media to send a message to supporters and admits Anfield will always be a ‘second home’.
