Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is optimistic that the Gunners will welcome back their senior stars for Saturday’s game against Leicester City. Arteta’s side progressed past Leeds United in the Carabao Cup at the Emirates Stadium 2-0 after second-half goals from Calum Chambers and Eddie Nketiah secured the win. Pablo Mari was expected to start the game but was ruled out after suffering from a sickness bug, while Ben White had to be substituted in the second half with a similar bug.
Mikel Arteta said: “There’s a bug going around. Ben had it for the last day or two. He wasn’t feeling great so we decided to take him off.”
Martin Odegaard and Kieran Tierney both missed the game through minor injuries, but Arteta remains hopeful that the Arsenal duo will be fit in time for Saturday’s game against Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Mikel Arteta said: “They are both out with two different injuries. They tried yesterday but they didn’t feel great. Hopefully in the next few days they can feel better and be available for Leicester.”
