Allan Saint-Maxmin believes his teammates showed bravery in the draw with Leeds United on Friday – and there’s disappointment with only picking up a point. Newcastle United are still in search of their first victory of the Premier League season but fears of a thrashing at the hands of Marcelo Bielsa’s men didn’t ring true, and despite falling behind after only 13 minutes – the Magpies secured a valuable point. Saint-Maximin was the star of the show for Steve Bruce’s side – grabbing the equaliser with a superb solo effort – and believes United showed enough quality to win the game.
Allan Saint-Maximin said: “The players gave everything – you don’t forget that Leeds are a really great team, they play well against the big teams, and they are a tough team to play against but we showed a lot of quality to win the game. We just have to keep going.”
After yet another turbulent week at the club, it was vital United didn’t lose Friday night’s game against Leeds United especially given that the Yorkshire side are just above them in the table. It was the perfect game for the neutral with both sides attacking and seemingly forgetting to defend. Saint-Maximin seemed to suggest the task of winning was made harder by the fact the Magpies slipped behind so early on.
Allan Saint-Maximin said: “To be honest for me, it’s two lost because we gave everything to win this game. We had a lot of chances, we were brave and every player was playing really well but it’s difficult to start the game one-nil down, we did everything to come back, we scored, and we had a lot of chances to make it 2-1, so we are very disappointed tonight. The lads work really hard in training. You can see on the pitch, every player is running a lot to try and get the win – and I’m disappointed not to get it.”
