Sadio Mane has admitted he would ‘love’ to face Crystal Palace every weekend as he continued his scoring streak against the Eagles. Mane became the first player in Premier League history to score in nine successive matches against a single opponent, a run dating back to the start of the 2017/18 season. Since representing the Reds in 2016, the only time the 29-year-old has failed to score against Crystal Palace was during Liverpool’s 4-2 win at Selhurst Park during the 2016/17 campaign. Mane also boasted an impressive record against the Eagles during his Southampton days, netting three times in four appearances involving the London club. After securing his latest goal against Palace, which was also his 100th goal for Liverpool, the Senegalese winger joked that it would be ‘great’ to come up against them each week in the Premier League.
Sadio Mane said: “I am lucky to score so many goals against Palace. Most important thing was the three points. Right place, right time. I am luck and happy. Thank you to all the fans, club and staff. Without them I am nothing. I would love to play against Crystal Palace. I am lucky. It would be great to play them every single weekend. In my head I am always thinking it is possible. I will keep trying and trying and trying.”
Mane helped Jurgen Klopp’s side send out another statement of intent to the rest of the division on Saturday afternoon. Liverpool made the most of Manchester City’s goalless draw with Southampton to return to the top of the table. Many have predicted this year’s title race could be one of the closest in years, an idea Mane fully supported as he shared his verdict on the Reds’ closest competitors.
Sadio Mane said: “I think people are not wrong saying Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United as well for the title. We will try to be our best and at that level.”
