Graham Potter felt Brighton were not quite at the races in their 2-0 defeat to Everton at the Amex. Goals in either half from Demarai Gray and Dominic Calvert-Lewin ended the Seagulls 100% start to the season. The hosts did have chances throughout the game with the closest they came to get a goal being Pascal Gross’ free kick which was well saved by the legs of Jordan Pickford despite the England No.1 diving the wrong way. But Potter admits his side were not at their best in the game.

Graham Potter said: “I think the better team won, we were not quite at our maximum which was not for the want of trying, not for the want of attitude. But we huffed and puffed without really playing to our highest level and when you are playing a team that is in good form like Everton are, that are well organised with good players that it is hard for us to get results and that has been proven today.”
