Brentford boss Thomas Frank believes his side had the chances to claim all three points against Aston Villa but that a 1-1 draw was also a fair result. The points were shared following an energetic 90 minutes which saw both sides have limited goalscoring opportunities. Ivan Toney lashed a shot into the top corner from inside the penalty area on seven minutes to score his first Premier League goal; Emi Buendia levelled the Premier League clash six minutes later, placing a low strike into the bottom corner. Sergi Canos thought he had won it for the visitors, only to have his attempt ruled out; substitute Ollie Watkins twice came close to snatching the points from his former club, coming close with a header and a low drive, but keeper David Raya would not be beaten. Despite Villa being the team to end the game on top, Frank suggested his side had enough quality to win the clash. Discussing Brentford ‘s performance with BBC Match of the Day,
Thomas Frank said: “[I’m] happy with most of the performance. We started the game brilliant at a difficult place to play. We were brave, pressed high and scored and I felt we were really on top of the game. Then one miscommunication and it gave them the chance. In the second half I felt we started better and then it was more even in the last part of the game. I felt if there should have been a narrow winner it should have been us. I would like us to be even braver. My message before every game is to go for a win, play forward and attack. I just probably need to keep reinforcing it.”
After the international break, Villa are back in action at Stamford Bridge as Dean Smith ‘s side take on Chelsea on September 11.
