Gabriel Jesus has revealed he is open to the idea of playing anywhere across the front-line adding fuel to the fire of Harry Kane’s rumoured move to Manchester City. The Brazilian forward played in a right-wing role against Norwich City in City’s 5-0 victory and caught the eye registering two assists in the process. With Harry Kane continuing to be linked with a move to Manchester City, Jesus’ shift to the wing will certainly be music to the ears of the England captain who is reportedly desperate for a move away from Tottenham. Speaking about his performance against Norwich, Jesus stressed his commitment to the team and that his target is not merely to score goals but to contribute with effective performances.
Gabriel Jesus said: “When you play with the number nine on your back, you normally have the pressure to score goals. I try to score every time I step onto the pitch, but sometimes I can score with other things, with assists, with runs and creating chances to help my team. I step out onto the pitch to help my team and I am so happy because everyone in the team played so good and we were able to win the first game back at the Etihad. I started to play football on the street, so I play everywhere in the attack. I think now I can focus more on my game to help my team.”
Jesus then went onto claim he is ready to play anywhere across the front-line and that his focus is purely on winning games at the club.
Gabriel Jesus said: “I am getting my confidence and my energy back. I like to play all of the time, wherever the manager tries to play me, I will try to do my best always. For my national team now, I play more on the right side so I think I can play there. We have a lot of good strikers, wingers as well, Riyad and Raheem came on and scored, so we have a very good team. Everyone who plays tries to do their best to win the games.”
With Sergio Aguero’s departure, Jesus is Manchester City’s only recognised senior forward. The need is there for a new striker to come into the side. Whether that will be Harry Kane, only time will tell.
