Sheffield Wednesday 1 – Wimbledon 1 – Fashanu Got Stretched Off and also received a red card
John Fashanu was shown the red card as he was carried off on a stretcher but Wimbledon still battled back to grab an injury-time equalizer. Fashanu clashed with Wednesday skipper Viv Anderson in an off the ball incident six minutes after Mark Bright’s 76th-minute opener. It looked like another severe setback to Wimbledon’s struggle against relegation, but they refused to lie down and salvaged a point when Dean Holdsworth struck three minutes into injury time.
Wednesday had carved out a couple of clear chances in the first half but both were squandered by Bright. Each time Chris Waddle was the provider with perfect crosses from the right flank, but Bright powered his headers wide of the target.
QPR 0 – Blackburn Rovers 3 – Gerry Francis Criticised David Bardsley and complained of lack of money to sign players
Queens Park Rangers manager Gerry Francis bemoaned about his club’s lack of financial power in the market and threw defender David Bardsley under the bus for two out of the three goals that his side conceded against Blackburn Rovers. Goals from Stuart Ripley (23rd minute), Kevin Moran (55) and Mark Atkinson (65) ensured that Kenny Dalglish’s men took all three points home.
Gerry Francis said “It’s a pity I can’t buy a £2 million player. The deadline goes, then you get on with the last seven games.”
Southampton 1 – Nottingham Forest 2 – Bullish Brian Clough Determined to Fight it Out at Forest
Roy Keane gave Brian Clough a reason to be cheerful with a follow up to Nigel Clough’s opener against Southampton at the Dell, lifting Forest off the bottom of the premier league table. Forest manager Clough came out after the match and said that he didn’t need a vote of confidence from Forest Chairman to continue to fight it out at Forest.
Brian Clough said “I certainly have no plans to pack it in and spend my time in the garden or walking the dog. I’m not quite ready for that just yet and I must be on safe ground because the chairman hasn’t given me a vote of confidence. This season has been something totally new for me because I’m not used to being stuck at the bottom of the table. But I’m ready for the battle which lies ahead and can assure Forest fans we’ll be doing everything within our powers to survive in the premier league.”
Tottenham Hotspur 3 – Manchester City 1 – Spurs Scored three as Andy Turner Shined Again
Andy Turner once again underlined his growing reputation when he scored Tottenham’s third goal in a 3-1 defeat of Manchester City at White hart lane.
The Irish under 21 player was still to make his international debut, scored with just two minutes to go after playing an impressive part in the game. The result meant that Manchester City went the whole of March without a win as Spurs moved back into the top half of the table and were confident ahead of their FA Cup semi-final against arch-rivals Arsenal.
