RALPH Hasenhuttl insists Saints “need more players” as the transfer window approaches its final month. Saints have made two additions to their first-team squad this summer, with Theo Walcott turning his loan move into a permanent one, while Romain Perraud arrived from Stade Brest. The club have also added two players to their B team in defenders Olly Lancashire and Dynel Simeu. But Hasenhuttl insists more business is needed before the window slams shut on August 31.
Ralph Hasenhuttl said: “We will definitely get a few more in, in the full-back positions, but also maybe a six (midfielder) and a centre-back. But the market is now I think getting a little bit hotter. We have our fingers in the market, but we must wait until the right moment. We are very clear that we need more players than last season.”
One player who did depart Saints this week was Mario Lemina. The midfielder had returned from a loan spell at Fulham and was part of the club’s pre-season training, before making the move to French side Nice.
Ralph Hasenhuttl said: “I wanted to keep him here, but he definitely said he wanted to leave, to go. We know that we are a little bit short of players.”
Saints begin their Premier League campaign at Everton on August 14.
