Wayne Rooney has said sorry for his involvement in the hotel images scandal over the weekend. Pictures went viral on social media of the Derby County boss asleep, surrounded by three young women. Rooney was pictured sleeping on a chair while in a hotel with Snapchat model Tayler Ryan and her pals Elise Melvin and Brooke Morgan over the weekend. There is no suggestion that Rooney acted inappropriately. Tonight, he addressed the issue publicly and apologised for the images. Speaking immediately after Derby’s pre-season friendly with Real Betis,

Wayne Rooney said: “I made a mistake. I went to a private party with two of my friends. From me, I would like to apologise to my family and the club for the images which were going round. I want to move forward on this. I’m grateful to Derby County for giving me this opportunity to get this club back to where it belongs. I will do everything in my power to do that.”

Rooney was then quizzed on whether he felt the victim in the episode but said he wants to look forward now.

Wayne Rooney added: “Yes, but I don’t really want to go into that. Listen, it’s dealt with and I’m looking forward to moving forward and preparing for another game on Sunday.”

Rooney is England and Manchester United ‘s all-time top goalscorer with 53 goals in 120 caps for his nation as well as 253 goals in 559 appearances for the Reds. He won five Premier League titles, an FA Cup, three League Cups and a UEFA Champions League title before retiring in January to take the Derby manager’s job on a full-time basis. He managed to steer them clear of relegation on the final day of the Championship season, thanks to a 3-3 draw with Sheffield Wednesday.
