Steve Bruce has revealed that Freddie Woodman could start the Premier League season in goal. The former England Under-21 stopper played his first Toon game for two years after returning from self-isolation following contact with Covid-affected Karl Darlow. Bruce stated he may have to register four goalkeepers in his 25-man squad with Martin Dubravka not likely to be fit for the new campaign. Woodman had hoped to be loaned out to AFC Bournemouth but now seems set to stay at St James’ Park.
Steve Bruce said last night: “It’s quite possible. He’s been playing for a couple of years at Swansea, and we thought for him to keep on playing – there was a loan move to Bournemouth – but I’ve got to look after the club.”
Bruce also said that Yoshinori Muto may also be loaned out and,
Steve Bruce said:“ There was a possibility of a loan move, but whether that’ll materialise, I’m not so sure because he’s only got a year left with us. We’ll see what happens in the next week or so.”
And Bruce was not able to deliver a positive transfer update in terms of incoming business.
Steve Bruce added: “I wish I could say ‘yes’ – but, we’re still bashing away, and I’ll try to continue to do that.”
