Liverpool goalkeeper Harvey Davies has revealed how being part of Jurgen Klopp’s 34-man squad that descended on Austria early this week can help his career in the long term. And the 17-year-old is looking to learn as many lessons as possible from the senior figures involved in the Reds’ pre-season camp. Speaking to the Liverpool Football Club official website, Davies has outlined how he plans to use his newest opportunity in Salzburg to continue his fantastic growth as he looks to the likes of Adrian and James Milner to learn the invaluable lessons of the game.
Harvey Davies said: “Adrian’s taken me under his wing a little bit and trying to give me little bits of advice where he can, and same with Loris [Karius] as well. They’re all top guys, Caoimhin [Kelleher] as well and I have good craic with him. But when it comes to work we know where we need to be and what the level’s at. But it’s really good for me as a young keeper – I’m the youngest keeper out here – and just learning as much as I can is so important and [it] will benefit me in my career as well. I’m trying to soak it all in really. It’s really important because you’ve got the likes of Millie, who’s a leader and sets the example for everyone. As a young lad, it’s really important to look and see what they’re doing because he’s had a career in the top flight of English football for so long and it doesn’t come naturally. You’ve got to be like him basically to succeed.”
Davies is hoping he can make his debut for his boyhood club over the coming weeks as Klopp’s men continue their preparations for the new season starting with a double-header against FC Wacker Innsbruck and VfB Stuttgart on Tuesday evening.
Harvey Davies explained: “It’d be nice [to play in the friendlies] but I’m young, so I’ve still got a long time for it. It would be nice to do that but if it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen. But if it does, it does.”
Having enjoyed a vast amount of success in recent seasons, the Reds failed to add a trophy to their cabinet during the 2020/21 season. But Klopp’s men could be set to challenge on both major fronts this term as they look to wrestle the Premier League back from the grip of Pep Guardiola. And with the prospect of competing for multiple honours, the young scouser is aiming to build on the successful individual season he had last year.
Harvey Davies said: “Yeah hopefully, if things go my way again. I got a bit of fortune last season and then just took my opportunities when I could. I’m grateful for being put on the bench and the experiences I’ll never forget. As such a young lad doing that in the Champions League, it was a really special experience.”
