Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has taken a cheeky swipe at England ahead of Wednesday’s Euro 2020 semi-final. Schmeichel and his Denmark teammates travel to Wembley Stadium to take on the Three Lions in the final four of the tournament on Wednesday night (8pm kick-off). During his pre-match press conference on Tuesday, Schmeichel couldn’t resist the chance to give England a cheeky reminder.
Kasper Schmeichel said: “Has it ever been home?” He responded with a smile when asked what it would mean to Denmark to stop football ‘coming home’ on Wednesday night. I don’t know, have you ever won it?” He asked, again with a smile.
In response, the journalist mentioned 1966, to which
Kasper Schmeichel replied: “Was that not the World Cup?”
Schmeichel then outlined his thoughts on stopping any celebrations at Wembley.
Kasper Schmeichel said: “To be honest, I haven’t given any thought to what it would mean to stop England more than what it would do for Denmark.”
Schmeichel is the last remaining City player in the competition with Belgium falling at the quarter-final stage against Italy. The goalkeeper has positive memories of Wembley Stadium already in the season just gone, having produced two brilliant saves in the FA Cup final victory over Chelsea back in May.
