Nuno Espirito Santo has been officially appointed as Tottenham Hotspur’s new head coach. The former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss has signed a contract keeping him at Spurs until 2023. Espirito Santo spent four years at the West Midlands club and emphatically led them out of the Championship and into the Premier League after a six-year absence. The new Spurs head coach etched his philosophy into Premier League history after finishing seventh and qualifying for European football in Wolves’ first season back in the top flight. Chairman Daniel Levy said that he is excited to see Espirito Santo reimplement Spurs’ “core DNA of playing attacking football” following Jose Mourinho’s departure in April.
Daniel Levy said: ”First of all, I’d like to welcome Nuno to the club. We should like to thank our supporters for all their patience throughout this process. I’ve spoken already about the need to revert back to our core DNA of playing attacking, entertaining football and Fabio [Paratici] and I believe Nuno is the man who can take our talented group of players, embrace our young players coming through and build something special.”
Tottenham’s newly-appointed director of football, Fabio Paratici, hailed the Portuguese head coach, claiming that his ability to give players the space to ‘develop and thrive’ was key to his appointment.
Fabio Paratici said: “The brief for this appointment has always been clear, we wanted a head coach that can instil all the values that are important to this football club.”
The former Juventus sporting director continued as he lauded Espirito Santo for his time at Wolves, hinting at the development of Doherty which ultimately led the north London club to sign him in 2020.
Fabio Paratici said: “You only have to look at Nuno’s time at Wolves to see his ability to take a group of players and implement an adaptive style that brings success and allows players to develop and thrive. We are all looking forward to getting started in what we hope will be a successful time with the club.”
