Former Tottenham Hotspur right-back Kieran Trippier is confident that Harry Kane will rediscover his goalscoring touch after a disappointing start to Euro 2020.
Kieran Trippier said: “With H [Harry], he works so hard for the team, people might not recognise what he does off the ball, the pressing. I believe in Harry and I know he will score goals, but it is the work he does for the team. Some people might not recognise what he does. The link-up play. Harry’s chances will come and for sure he will score goals. Harry’s had an unbelievable season with Spurs. Harry is fit, he’s working hard every single day in training and it’s just about trying to get the chances to him. But he will score goals. He’s our captain, he’s our leader. Like I said he’s a big player for us and we just need to create chances for him to score goals. He’s an unbelievable professional and we just need to try and get him on the end of chances and try and create as much for him as we can.”
Having been withdrawn from the action against Scotland with just over 15 minutes remaining, some felt that Kane was suffering with fitness issues and should be left out of the starting line-up for Tuesday’s clash with the Czech Republic. However, Southgate has quickly quashed those theories, insisting he will start their final group game of the tournament.
Gareth Southgate said: “Well you can assume that, yes, absolutely. I don’t mind giving you that one. We didn’t need an additional goal. Harry ended up playing a lot of football and we felt the need to manage that load this time and we have got options on the bench. He’s our most important player, there’s no doubt about that and you only have to look at his goal scoring record to see his importance to the team.”
