Andy Robertson hailed the performance of Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour after Scotland’s 0-0 draw with England. Gilmour was one of four changes made by Steve Clarke to the Scotland side that lost their opening game 2-0 to the Czech Republic at Hampden Park on Monday. And although John Stones should have headed Gareth Southgate’s side ahead in the opening 15 minutes, Scotland were arguably the better team at Wembley.
Andy Robertson said: “I think we did. I don’t think many people can argue (we deserved more). I think we had the big chances, at times, we kept the ball superbly well, frustrated them and on another night, we could have came away with more. We’ll take a point, it keeps us alive, but it’s important that we use this feeling, we use the fans being happy going into Tuesday and it’s important we try to use it to get a positive result. My God, right up there (he places Gilmour’s performance).”
Andy Robertson added: “I spoke to him in the hotel today, I just looked at him and to be fair to Billy, nothing fazes him and that’s why I believe he can have as many caps as he wants for Scotland. He’s got a huge future ahead of him for Scotland but the here and now is pretty good as well.”
Continuing on England,
Andy Robertson: “Harry is one of their players that you constantly have to keep a watch on. But there’s a few of them out there, Foden got subbed as well, we kept him quite quiet, Sterling too. The boys came on, the whole crowd lifted when Grealish came on, but to be fair, the right-hand side kept him quiet and he didn’t do much. Credit to all the boys in the end, a really good result.”
