In the aftermath of Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad announcement for the ongoing European Championships, Bukayo Saka celebrated his first-ever England goal after finding the back of the net against Austria. Following a last-ditch tackle on Jesse Lingard in the box, the ball landed at Saka’s feet and the youngster stroked it home into an empty net. It’s a moment he’ll certainly never forget in the long-term, but the 19-year-old is putting it behind him – for now at least – as England focus on going as far as possible at Euro 2020.

Bukayo Saka said: “Obviously to score my first goal was crazy. I don’t wanna talk too down on it but I think in football things just move on. Obviously, I scored my first goal and now the focus is on the Euros and now to try and score in the Euros if I get my opportunity and I think that’s always been my mentality to obviously [focus on the] next game, next game.”

Scoring for your country is a huge achievement and a special feeling, especially when you’re still only a teenager, and now the Arsenal winger is motivated to continue his form in front of goal.

Bukayo Saka said: “I enjoyed the time, the moment, and I had a lot of messages, a lot of congratulations and the feeling that I had when I scored the goal was like no other. I would love to definitely have that feeling again and score for England so that’s what I’m working towards now.”

Even though Saka isn’t expected to get too many chances at the Euros, fans will be hoping he does score again when given the chance.
