UEFA president Aleksandar Ceferin has led the messages of support to Denmark captain Christian Eriksen following the midfielder’s distressing collapse in the 41st-minute of tonight’s Euro 2020 game against Finland in Copenhagen. The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder fell to the ground late in the first half of the Group B opener and appeared to receive CPR before being transported to a nearby hospital, where he is conscious and stable. A Danish FA spokesman said that the 29-year-old has spoken to his team-mates from the hospital and, following a meeting between both teams and the match officials, a decision was taken to restart the game this evening.
Aleksandar Ceferin said: “Moments like this put everything in life into perspective. I wish Christian a full and speedy recovery and pray his family has strength and faith. At these times, the unity of the football family is so strong and he and his family carry with them the good wishes and prayers of everyone. I heard of fans of both teams chanting his name. Football is beautiful and Christian plays it beautifully.”
Spurs, among dozens of other major clubs, offered their own messages of support.
Tottenham statement said: “Get well soon, Christian. The whole Spurs family is with you.”
