RALPH Hasenhuttl admitted Saints’ substitutes brought on against Leeds United had not been as “impulsive” – as his side eventually succumbed to a 2-0 home defeat.
Ralph Hasenhuttl said: “Maybe because this time the subs haven’t been that impulsive for our game like the last time. This was maybe also a fact of not being able to push against them.”
Leeds netted through striker Patrick Bamford on 73 minutes at St Mary’s before Tyler Roberts grabbed a second on the counter in stoppage time. Quizzed further on his switches not being able to pay dividends against the Elland Road side,
Ralph Hasenhuttl replied: “It’s not always possible for them to have a good impact but I think you need to speed up the game in such moments. We couldn’t do it, we couldn’t manage it. Everybody had a game on Saturday, we had been not the freshest. They (Leeds) rested a little bit in the first 35 minutes and in such a moment then you have to go in the lead because we invested much more than they did. We both played on Saturday and you could feel in the end, in the last 20 or 30 minutes they had a little bit more to give than we had to give because we did not take the advantage and score a goal.”
