Dele Alli showcased the kind of technical prowess that saw him earn the title of PFA Young Player of the Year on two separate occasions as the midfielder helped Tottenham keep their hopes of European football alive. After the contest, Dele Alli heaped praise on the kind of football his side are playing at the moment under Mason, before he chuckled at being described as the Dele of old.

Dele Alli said: “I enjoy it when we have the ball and when we’re playing with players like this, it’s a joy to play.”

Given before his sacking as Spurs boss, Jose Mourinho barely used the likes of Dele and Gareth Bale, many saw his comments as a subtle dig at the Portuguese boss.

Dele Alli continued: “I’m just trying to express myself, have fun and like I said I try and help the team as much as I can. Mentally, I try and help the team, whether it be making runs off the ball or getting on the ball and trying to create things – if we are going to win these games we have to all work together, I’m just trying to find rhythm, find form and play as well as I can for the club.”
