Sheffield Wednesday manager Trevor Francis was adamant that his team was not in contention for the title despite his side being on a 14 match unbeaten run in the league. They had found a way of picking up points out of the tough situation and with three games in hand and just 12 points off the top, the Owls were still an outsider for the title race.

Trevor Francis said, “The title appears to be between the three – Villa, Manchester United and Norwich and probably we won’t be in Europe again unless it’s through winning one of the cups.”

But his side had found a way of winning without their main goal scorer Paul Warhurst, they had won against Crystal Palace a week earlier and were going into their next match at Maine Road against Manchester City.
