Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa believes Tottenham played with “enthusiasm” in their 3-1 loss at Elland Road, but the two-goal difference reflected a fair result. When asked whether Leeds showed more desire and energy than Spurs, who have the added incentive of trying to qualify for a place in Europe next season,
Marcelo Bielsa said: “The comparison that you made is not the exact one I would make between the two teams. I don’t think that Tottenham played without enthusiasm. On our part, I link it to the spirit of the players. We think that when we are playing for positions, we think that the enthusiasm increases.”
The Argentine did describe the victory as one of the best his side’s had this season. However, even though he thinks Leeds could have scored more goals because of a continued attacking threat, he believes that the final result was a fair one, especially because Spurs had chances of their own that they didn’t put away.
Marcelo Bielsa added: “We could have scored more goals, but we could also have conceded some more as well. I think the difference of two goals is adequate, fair. To have won by more goals would not have corresponded, even if it was possible. And to have won by only one goal, I don’t think would also have been fair, but they could have closed the distance, too.”
Regardless of whether the result was fair or not, it means three dropped points from interim manager Mason’s perspective, and with just three games left of the season, Spurs have it all to do to ensure they finish in a European spot.
