Bruno Fernandes said “What everyone has to know is Mason is a young player, now everyone starts to know how he is, the chances he has, so it starts to become more difficult for him, it’s normal and it’s part of his development and he will learn from here. It doesn’t matter how many goals he scores, the most important thing for us is to still help the team and he is doing his best, because it’s us as a team that matters. It doesn’t matter who scores, if Mason scores or not, it’s important he can do other jobs, recovery balls, pressing, defending when we need to, making assists, creating danger. It’s not important that he scores. He has to understand because he’s such a young lad and every striker wants to score. He will score more and more goals.”
United had to come from behind to beat Brighton and they’ve now claimed 25 points from losing positions this season. Fernandes said that statistic showed the spirit and determination in the side, but stressed the importance of not conceding in the first place.
Bruno Fernandes said “It says a lot, but the spirit and the determination is there when we don’t concede and come back. The spirit has to be there to not concede goals,” he said. If we don’t concede goals you are closer to winning the game. We have to keep doing our job, defending well as a team and scoring goals is the most important thing.”
Fernandes created the equaliser, playing Marcus Rashford in on goal, but he was also on the end of a late challenge from Joel Veltman just after he’d delivered the through ball.
Bruno Fernandes said “[It was a] good finish, I didn’t see it because someone almost broke my ankle,” he said. “I’m happy for the team and Marcus, he’s come back from injury and he made an effort to help us.”
