Eyebrows were raised when Jurgen Klopp picked who he felt was the greatest player has ever managed earlier this week.
Jurgen Klopp said: “Robert Lewandowski. It actually won’t be fair to say that about any other player except Lewy. What he has made out of his potential, how he pushed himself to become the player he is today, that’s extraordinary. Lewy took every step he needed to take to be that goal machine. Every one. He has immersed himself in the game, he just knows in every situation what he has to do, where he has to go. Lewy is an absolute machine.”
Lewandowski and Klopp first linked up in 2010 when the Liverpool boss brought him to Borussia Dortmund from Lech Poznan, and in four seasons together, they won two Bundesliga titles, the DFB-Pokal and reached a Champions League final.
The fact that so many of Klopp’s squad can claim to be world-class is testament to the work he has done on Merseyside. However, they were all overlooked when it came for the German to make his choice in an interview with Bild.
