Jamie Carragher believes the title is “slipping away” from Liverpool and thinks his former club will be concerned about missing out on the top four after losing to Burnley. The Premier League champions were beaten 1-0 at Anfield on Thursday night, bringing an end to their 68-game unbeaten run at home. It means that Liverpool is now winless in five Premier League matches and haven’t scored a league goal in 2021. With Tottenham and Everton able to jump above Liverpool, in fourth, if they win their games in hand, Carragher believes chances of retaining the title are waining and the club may even be concerned about qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.
Jamie Carragher said “We’re talking about a blip for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp has come out and defended his players as you’d expect, and these players have done so much for Liverpool,” Carragher told Sky Sports after the full-time whistle. But at this moment, they look like the title is slipping away. You think it’s gonna be really difficult. At this moment, yes, it looks like six points from the top, that can still be recovered, the fixtures they have in the next couple of months. I think Liverpool in the next couple of weeks will start worrying about the top four positions rather than the title. They need to get back to winning games, scoring goals. There are so many teams this season that are challenging for the top four, that will be a concern for Liverpool until they get out of this poor form.”
