Just as the season was taking the final turn and Manchester United needed to cross the final hurdle, injuries were mounting up and Alex Ferguson was wondering where the goals were to come from.

After losing three players in the match against QPR, one of which was Mark Hughes, who needed nine stitches on his ankle, Eric Cantona who was the backup striker to partner Ryan Giggs had also been ruled out of their cup clash against Brighton and was a doubt for their next league match.

Alex Ferguson said “Eric Cantona is looking extremely doubtful now.”

He also suggested that Brian McClair would be the partner with Mike Phelan in midfield if Cantona did not recover.
