Jamie Carragher believes Frank Lampard may have a problem on his hands when it comes to Timo Werner. Werner has come under some criticism for his success rate in front of goal since his £47.6million transfer from RB Leipzig in the summer, despite netting four in the Premier League so far and from wide positions. The German frontman says he is still adapting to the Premier League, which is pretty unique in its style of play and what it asks from players. And former Liverpool defender turned pundit Carragher sides with Werner, believing he should be given time to adjust, but he has also pointed to a problem Lampard might have with the highly-rated forward.

Jamie Carragher said “I think every foreign player says that when they come in, that’s normal, The thing with Werner is where he’s actually playing. Frank brought him in to be the main striker, there’s so many wide players and a lot of the wide players got injured at different times. He is a player who has played in those positions, almost like a wide striker. He played that for Leipzig under Nagelsmann, it’s whether it’s a different type of system or way of playing. They’re certainly not quite getting the best out of him. I think Abraham came in and did well, Giroud came in and did well, so I think that’s made it easier in some ways. I still think Werner has had good games in that position, at Newcastle he was dynamite, but he is going to be judged on goals. Sooner or later, he’s going to want to be down the middle. I think that is the problem for Frank, when you buy so many players and have such a big squad, sometimes you can have too many options and that might be the case now for their attacking options.”
