Jose Mourinho says that while he has no idea whether Pep Guardiola will try to tempt Lionel Messi to join Manchester City, the former Barcelona boss would have to have been happy with the club’s plans before signing a new contract. Guardiola extended his stay with City by a further two years this week until 2023. There had been speculation over whether the 49-year-old would be leaving the club with his deal set to run out at the end of this season. And Mourinho says that he is completely in the dark over whether Guardiola would attempt to sign the multiple Ballon d’Or winner – but says the manager will have to have been happy with what the club’s plans for the next two years before signing his new deal.
Jose Mourinho said “I’ve no idea, The only for sure is that nobody put a gun on Pep’s head to sign the contract, so if he does that it is because he is happy to do it. He is happy to be there and for sure has conversations with the club’s powerful people and he knows what he will have ahead of him for the future. He has motivation, he loves it there so if he does that it is because he is happy to do it, so I am happy for him.”
