Sheffield United defender Enda Stevens is looking forward to concentrating on football after a week of Covid-related disruptions whilst on international duty. The Blades ‘ defender is away with the Republic of Ireland squad and is preparing for Nations League tie in Finland. Two players who tested positive for Covid-19, as well as four players deemed to be close contacts of the first Ireland player to test positive, are unable to play. Stevens’ United colleague John Egan, and former United forward Callum Robinson, are among those not available tonight. Stevens, an ever-present for Chris Wilder’s side this term, he says the players have to get on with it as best they can.
Enda Stevens said “It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster but one of them things you just get on with. We’re footballers and we want to play football and we just want to go out there and do the business. It upsets our rhythm because the manager has the team picked and unfortunately then we hear it (change) so close (to the games) but as footballers we’re just programmed to get on with things. We’re playing to win. It’s a results business and we all know that, we didn’t do ourselves any favours in the home game [against Finland last month] which was in pre-season so we want to make amends for that result and go on and build on things. We warranted wins in our last two games and it was just unfortunate that we couldn’t hit the net but I think the lads are confident and we have been on top and dominating for long spells. That’s the main thing. If we keep making chances we’ll score sooner rather than later.”
