Andy Cole was one of the hottest properties in English football at the time and in one of his first national interviews, he spoke about a range of different topics like his relationship with Arsenal manager George Graham, growing up in a difficult financial situation, being proud of what fellow black footballers had achieved in the game and Kevin Keegan’s influence on him.

Here we shall cover the second part of that interview.

Other Black Footballers like Ian Wright & Paul Ince Making it to the top

Andy Cole said “I’m delighted for them that it’s worked out after all they have gone through. Looking at them have made me appreciate what I have got. Paul could have gone the wrong way, but he’s buckled down to become not only a great player but an established international. Ian’s done the same thing – and proved a lot of people wrong along the way, there were plenty that told him he wasn’t good enough.”

On Kevin Keegan

Andy Cole said “I know I’ve still got a lot to learn – and I reckon Kevin Keegan is the biggest influence of all in my career. He sold this club to me straight away and things have just taken off from there. To be honest I’m surprised how quickly things have happened. He really did take a chance on me and it has paid off.”
